Kondalilla Falls Circuit

Kondalilla National Park

Kondalilla Falls (80m) is one of the most spectacular and accessible falls on the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. The walk down to the falls is 'family friendly' with some rock stairs and a maintained path. Great views of the rainforest valley from the natural rock pools at the top. You can swim in the rock pools at both the top and bottom of the falls.

Getting there:

Head to Montville and 2km north of the town on the Mapleton Montville Road, turn left onto Kondalilla Falls Road, where there is a car park at the end. At weekends, this area becomes very, very busy and you will find yourself having to park in the adjacent residential streets.

Kondalilla Falls

Route/Trail notes:

The entire trail is well defined and maintained by National Parks. From the bottom of the picnic area just beyond the car park, join the figure of eight trail, which includes  the Picnic Creek Circuit (1.3km) and shared with the Sunshine Coast Hinterland Great Walk (58km). At the bottom of the Picnic Creek Circuit take the pathway steps (about 150) down to the rock pools at the top of the falls on your left. From there, cross the bridge and down the valley to the bottom of the falls and then back up the far side (another 150 steps) to rejoin the original trail and back to the picnic area.

Permits/Costs:

None.

Nice walk - very cruisey. Swimming hole just gorgeous, but generally rather cold! Don't overthink, just jump in
- you'll soon get over the shock and enjoy it :)

Easy sealed walk. Nice waterhole at the end. The section leading to the waterfall lookout is currently closed due to rock slide (people are still going through though).

This is a very popular walk. The carpark was full.

Only wanted to do the Kondalilla falls part of this circuit, however found the bottom part of the falls is closed off at the moment (large rock fall). Turned out to be a very short walk (2km) across the top to the lookout; amazing view then down to the top waterfall and pool, then back up along the bottom path to the picnic area (30min. total). A perfect little walk for the family.

Always a great walk! Great for Kids especially as long as they are into bushwalking. We ended up walking all the way to Flat Rock along the Great Walk track as the circuit is closed due to rockfall. I was extremely proud of Mr H (4) and Mr C(7) as this was their longest walk to date at 9kms round trip.

Beautiful scenic route. The path to the big waterfall is close due to rock slides. Will highly recommend this to everyone.

Excellent walk. There are a few different ways to see this beauty. Some easier than others. Overall though, no matter what way you see Kondalilla you'll be impressed.

Pleasant walk and refreshing swim

Fun walk we started at 4pm but I've never seen so many people on a trail! Very popular. I recommend walking clockwise to avoid a long zig-zag back up. There's a cave halfway up the waterfall to the left :)

I've done this a few times, the upper track is breezy and the full loop is fun on the downhill but has a LOT of stairs coming back up.

A perfect place to hike after rain, water is flowing but just be careful on slippery and muddy track/rocks.

Did this walk , all the way down to bottom of waterfall after a few days of rain , just awesome to see and hear the waterfall at it's best !

Good walk with easy marked paths but be aware that once you get to the bottom you do need to walk back out so ensure your fitness level is good enough.
No rain when I visited so not much water on the falls so I would recommend as others have said to visit when its been raining.

The Family did this one but I was carrying the 4yo back up those stairs.

Great Walk what amazing views . . watch out for some of the suspicious plant life . . and if wet can be slippery but worth the views :)

Samiekins on 22 May, 2013

Very good after rain to see the waterfalls and ponds full. A few leaches though.
All in all an easy walk with great scenery.

Short walk to a lovely waterhole to swim in !!!

Emmalea on 2013

Best to go after a good rainfall so the falls are flowing and not dry.
