The signage is pretty vague but there's so much natural beauty here it's worth muddling through. We were passing through late in the day so we only did this quick easy Granite Arch circuit but it was great, waterholes and rock formations abound.

This walk has the most amazing lookout at the end, I definitely recommend it to everyone who goes to the Bunyas.

If you take the tracks straight down to the lookout from the picnic area, the track is fairly well maintained and easy. If you do the loop, there is a large section that is unrelentingly steep and has a LOT of loose rocks and overgrown sections. The view is fabulous, but it's not great footing.

We went clockwise for this walk, and I'd recommend that. There are a lot of stairs in that section. The falls are beautiful, and the birdlife was everywhere. Really a worthwhile walk.

This is a really beautiful bit of rainforest and a good walk. We did the rainforest circuit and then the palm circuit, both were lovely but the rainforest circuit had more atmosphere and some really great old giant trees. The Rainforest has some stairs but is definitely easier than the Palm circuit.

We were here shortly after a controlled burn so it wasn't at it's best but it still had it's charms. The rock pools and gorges were very scenic, the cascades and waterfall were small but flowing and there were still plenty of birds around. There are a LOT of stairs on this walk, especially if you continue on to the lookout at the end, so it definitely earns it's Medium rating in my eyes. The wind through the valley is very strong and cold at times so be prepared for extra windchill - and probably a hat that can be secured would be a plus.

We walked the blue trail and then came back by the black. Saw some great birds and kangaroos and there were lots of wildflowers everywhere which was lovely. The breeze was very nice on the blue trail but on the black trail it got really very hot. Honestly the black trail was somewhat lacking in scenery and had almost 2 solid kilometers of slight upward gradient which I personally find very wearing - I'd rather do a steeper gradient interspaced with flat or downhill areas. If we did it again we'd probably do the blue but then come back via the white and red trails, the blue section had a lot going for it but the black was like just walking along a road in dry backcountry.

Done this walk at least a dozen times, it's a nice brisk stroll without much challenge. It's extremely scenic, ocean views the whole way, with lots of fun detours for beaches and rock pools. There are areas where the path is extremely narrow and it can get busy, so there may be some awkward shoulder-rubbing at the narrowest points when people are coming back the other way or you're overtaking. If you don't like a lot of other people around this isn't the walk for you, if you love looking at the ocean then it is. |
