The Box Forest Track leaves the Picnic Rock track 2.7 km from the entrance and is a most rewarding circuit walk. The track winds down through stands of Brush Box and Piccabeen Palms, to the lush sub-tropical rainforest along Canungra Creek. Pepper Vines cling to tall trees that often support spectacular tree gardens.

Turn right at the next track junction. During wet times, you will have to wade through the water when crossing above Wajinya Falls. The track continues near the top of the falls on the other side. Darragumai Falls and Picnic Rock are considered good lunch spots. Don't miss Box Log and Elabana Falls on the way home.

Did the Elabana Falls & Picnic Rock section of this walk & returned the same way. Only took 65 mins each way roughly as it’s not a hard walk. Photographed the Falls extensively & had to wait for the harsh sun to shift behind the trees. Highly recommend this walk

Very enjoyable walk and we did with children.
Also plenty of beautiful waterfalls to see along the way and to stop for lunch!
Didn’t encounter any leeches and also didn’t get to spot any of the famous crayfish!
I would definitely do it again!

Lovely walk, best to do it after some rains so you get the best out of the waterfalls. Best to do it anti clockwise so you save the best waterfalls for the end. Either ways it is a beautiful walk and can be done with kids. Elabana falls are beautiful but my favorite was the box log falls the sheer force of it and the cliffs surrounding it give it that magical feel. All in all definitely recommend doing this one if you love chasing waterfalls. A bit of rock hopping to do to get across a few falls bit nothing too dangerous

Sensational Elabana Falls and Box Forrest Falls.
Excellent easy walk that traverses the top and bottom of both falls. Amazing swimming at Elebana falls.

Nice walk, absolutely worth it.
Not too hard or steep.
Go clockwise.
On the way back go via the gardens and the tree top walk, it’s nice too.
Did not encounter a single leech, but plenty of blue/ white lemmongton crayfish.

Great walk through the rainforest, visiting a number of spectacular waterfalls on the way due to the recent rain. We stopped for morning tea at the waterfalls just before we reached picnic point which was busier with people. Leeches galore! Wear long pants and sleeves.

I Adore this walk. Beautiful waterfalls, quite easy track.

Bloody wet and we fed plenty of leeches but those ancient brush box trees and the falls on Canungra Creek were worth it.

Box Forest Circuit is a gorgeous walk! Was a last minute decision with only 2 drink bottles between two people and one piece of banana bread, however we made through it easy. I will warn everyone now, make sure you're wearing some good shoes. I was wearing my hiking boots I purchased from Wildfire Sports and my friend was wearing his magnum work boots. Due to the past weeks rain fall the track was a bit slippery but don't let that scare you. Next time around I will definitely bring my 3L camelbak day pack so I can bring lunch and keep hydrated a bit better. There are so many neat mini waterfalls along the way. The walk back up the circuit however took it's toll on my smoker lungs and is making my legs hurt. If you're a person doesn't go to the gym regularly I promise your legs will be feeling it afterwards however it really is quite a decent walk. Give yourself a lot of time if you want to take your time on this walk. My friend and myself took 2.5-3 hours doing this walk however we are both quick walkers and had about 30 minutes just sitting down at the different falls and climbing rocks to get some pictures. Even in October I ended up going down to my yoga pants and sports bra as it's a heated walk up. Perfect walk for a weekend adventure! Will back again soon.

I chose today to do the Box Forest Circuit !
To get to these trails you need to to enter from the valley west of Tamborine Mountain through the town of Canungra. Via Lamington National Park rd.Head towards O'Reillys Rainforest Retreat...
I must WARN though ! .The last part of this road towards the climb to the mountain top is horrendous. The road is in some serious need of repair. And could be quite scary for the faint hearted !!!
I was really early and saw lots and lots of wallabies .Be careful as they were all over the road and on every bend.
As well as big groups of bush turkeys.( i have never seen lots of them all together before )? they weren't eager to get out of my way either.
Around O'Reillys Rainforest Retreat there are plenty of King parrots,
the odd Regent bower bird and brush turkeys galore.
On the trail i saw 3 Pademelons , A very big skink called a Land mullet, Yellow throated scrub wrens etc etc. I am usually not quick enough to catch them on film.
You can see this awesome trail on Gizmos Adventures .

This circuit is 10.9km and is an easy walk. It took me about 4 hours and that was with stopping for lots of photo's, many oohh's and aahh's and lunch at Picnic Rock.
Walk this circuit in a clockwise direction and exit via Elabana Falls and Picnic Rock. The track is easy to follow for the whole circuit and is well signed.

The waterfalls that you encounter on this hike are glorious shows of stunning, shimmering, breathtaking beauty that are deep in a majestic forest. The sound of the rainforest bird's and the thundering of the falls, the crisp, clean smell of overnight rain, the sight of moss covered boulders and the sheer beauty of the rays of sunlight as they break through the canopy hitting the ancient, old giant trees that whisper to your soul as you touch them....
This is definitely one of Mother Nature's finest that you must come and experience for yourself 💕🙏

Absolutely incredible. Have done this a couple of times and so rewarding every time. Packs snacks and spend time at every stunning fall.

Natalie on 18 Jan, 2017

Went on this hike in the middle of pouring down rain, not the best experience however the track was amazing, beautiful waterfalls and nice rest spots along the way.
However every few metres we were flicking leaches off of our boots and legs, they were everywhere and some were big and painful.
Even with long thick pants they will climb all over you trying to get some blood however they cannot penetrate through the pants so be prepared.

Multiple falls and creek crossings, wet/muddy/slippery in places.

Wonderfall walk... lots of beautiful waterfalls

Mackamcb on 23 Nov, 2016

An awesome walk one of my favourites so far, stunning waterfalls and nice walking track, a little muddy in places but it has rained last few weeks, few water crossings but on rocks and stuff so only mud on the shoes. Thought we had lost the track a few times but stay true it just gets a little over grown and small.. ❤️ Loved it

Beautiful walk. We walk with 3 children (including a 5 year old) and had a fantastic day. The track is in great shape with only two fallen trees partially blocking the track - both are high enough to climb under. There's plenty of water in the creek to get some lovely waterfall photos, but not enough to cause any issues with the two creek crossings. We stopped for lunch at Picnic Rock. All up it took us 4 hours to complete the walk. Definitely a walk we will be doing again :)
