Getting there:

From Kenilworth travel south on the Maleny Kenilworth Road for 7km before turning right onto Booloumba Creek Road. Travel a further 5km along this road to the entrance of the park. From here on, the road is unsealed and you will need a High Clearance 4WD as there a number of creek crossings. After 1km you will reach the Day Use Area on the right, where you can park.

All the walks start from here, although they can be accessed from the three camping areas.

Route/Trail notes:

From the signs talking about the Great Walk, head up the stairs and follow the signs to the Mt Allan fire trail. It's a very well signed and defined path, so just follow it and the signs all the way. 700 metres from the top there is a small post at a fork in the path. Follow the fork up to the right and head to the fire tower at the top of the mountain. At the top, you can walk up the stairs to the 9 metre tower.

Return by the same route, or carry on to Summer Falls and back.

Permits/Costs:

None. There are various camping options within the park, that require you to buy a permit. See:

Based ourselves at Camping Area 1 for the weekend to do as many of the walks in the area that time would allow. Prime objective on Saturday was to complete this great little walk to the fire tower. The fire tower is currently being refurbished, so had to circumnavigate the fencing to gain access.

Great walk! Very pretty. Be sure to start at day area 2 otherwise you can expect an additional 700m uphill.
Was tough in some spots but worth it when you finally reach the top. We did it in 31/2 hours which includes a 30 break at the top.

Easy footing, but a bit long and monotonous. One of those walks where you keep asking are we there yet.

5.5 km up the Hill with switchbacks to make it easier to the Fire Tower (which you can climb)
great views of the surrounding area then walk back down the hill

Easy to Mt Allan. We tried to continue on back to Charlie Moreland but the track did not appear to be sign posted so we returned to Booloumba Ck. Will try the Charlie Moreland to Mt Allan next.

Cloudy and humid day, but still a reasonably good view from the top of the tower. The water was higher than normal, so we had to park outside the park and walk down the 4wd track, getting wet a few times. Returned via the extra trail to day use area #1 where the creek crossing was well under water. Our feet spent most of the day wet and there were quite a few leeches, but still a good walk to the tower which really got the heart rate pumping with it's constant uphill.

Did the walk twice in a couple of weeks, first time with about 20 children on our school camp aged between 10 and 13.
Quite a hot day, so some of the children struggled with the climb and most drank all their water by half way up.
Second time was with my 11 year old daughter and 2 of her friends. Cooler day and found it much easier going.
Worthwhile having a swim in the waterhole afterwards.
