Auburn River National Park , Riverbed and rockpools walk

Wide Bay Burnett

This is a strenuous walk and should only be attempted by fit walkers. This rough track winds down the side of the gorge to the river, travelling through dry rainforest, eucalypt forest and creek vegetation. The swollen trunks of bottle trees are a forest feature. Before exploring the river: take time to observe the immediate area to ensure you will be able to find the trail on your return. Take care when walking on wet rock surfaces, as they can be slippery.

One or family's favourite camping destinations. A gem of a place. Stunning at sunrise and sunset.

The walk down to the gorge and back up isn’t that hard although it is uphill on the way back and very very hot this summer. The rock hopping in the gorge if you follow the footprints is challenging but great fun and simply gorgeous. Water levels were low and you had to swim through a lot of moss and algae to get to a clear waterhole so we didn’t swim.

Weekend camping at the park, Gorge/river had some water flowing through it after all that rain !

Being the middle of summer it was quite hot so we headed down to the river for a swim. It was a bit tricky negotiating the rocks to the water's edge and because the water was very silty with no visibility we were reluctant to go in.
Soon the only other people at the camp ground, a young family, came down and ventured in. We followed them in and explored the swimming hole, going up rock fissures to where the water gushed in.
I think I got nibbled by a fish.
While we relaxed in the shade, the family crossed the river exploring the far bank. The track across is tricky as the rocks are large.

Nice easy walk. Good to explore the rock pools.

A more interesting walk , some fitness and good shoes required , specially if wanted to explore riverbed. Large rocks which can be slippery when wet.
