Boat Mountain, Daniels Lookout

Wide Bay Burnett

This track winds up Boat Mountain then follows along the ridge at the top to offer sweeping views to the north.

There is a long man-made staircase at the beginning of this walk (approx. 190 steps), making this a Grade 3-4 difficulty trail, but the upper section of the track is mostly flat and very easy to follow, with views that are well worth the effort.

Route/Trail notes

Begin from the trailhead behind the picnic table at the carpark. Well signed. Follow the man made stairs up to Braithwaites lookout, then continue straight along the mostly-flat dirt walking track until you reach the lookout. The lookout has some rocky outcrops - supervise children carefully.

Return via the same trail or take signed side-track to make a loop with Silburns Vine Scrub Walk (a very shady, interesting side-track that rejoins the main trail not far from Braithwaite's Lookout.)

Comments

Interesting, mostly shaded walk up Boat Mountain and along the ridge at the top to a lookout with stunning views to the north. Wide variety of native plants with limited weeds. Some trapdoor spider holes near the lookout, but they were very shy and didn't cause any problems.

Beautiful walk on a glorious day. Great views of the South Burnett region.

I grew up in this area. We have done this walk multiple times with our (now grown up) kids. You need to be at least of average fitness with good knees to get up the stairs at the beginning then it's flat on top (like an upturned boat). We have done it at night as well to go spotlighting for gliders etc. We always see koalas near Daniel's lookout and have seen echidnas, carpet snakes and pademelons in the vine scrub section. Take a picnic up to have and enjoy the views.

Beautiful views. Saw a Koala too! Hardest part of the walk was the steps. It’s been a while since I’ve had a bush walk.

Took the whole 4 wd club up this mountain. A little incline and then nice and flat with beautiful views at the top. Added another track to the time on the way down but only 50 mins in total return.
Nice easy one for the whole family
