Anybody with general fitness levels wanting to take some incredible photo's should seriously consider Mt Mitchell. We generally attack serious rock scramble mountain climbs .. this is certainly not that at all, but it'll give you all the incredible views anyway. This is not a hard walk .. very clear path to follow .. its just a long walk up a very high hill ... thats SO worth it ! Would love to do this again for both sunrise and sunset photo opportunities ! Anybody not interested in rock scrambling, but chasing similar views serious Mountains Climbers generally achieve after hours of serious CLIMBING .. this is for you ! Awesome ! |

A good mountian hike for those not wanting any Rock Scrambling etc .. A few sections are steep enough to let your calf muscles know they're working quite hard .. but the view at the top is certainly worth the effort !
Mt Greville (Moogerah Peaks National Park) |

What a climb ! We arrived at the Mt Greville Carpark just before 6am from Brisbane. We decided to check out the Waterfall Gorge first, which is indeed very beautiful. Once inside, you are deep in a canyon of incredible rock formations, and huge tree's. We then re-traced our steps back to the start of the South East Ridge, and commenced climbing Mt Greville. There are loose rocks virtually all the way, so be careful where you place your feet. You arrive at a few clear rock area's, which offer incredible view's towards Mt Barney, Mt Superbus, etc .. and also Moogerah Dam. Continuing on from this point, the track takes you through a seemingly endless Grasstree area, and by now your legs will possibly be feeling very worked. The summit is a welcome sight with a large rock cairn signalling the absolute top of Mt Greville. There is a decent clear area to grab photo's of the Northern View ( Towards Cunningham Highway ), and another facing a southerly direction. The top is largely covered with tree's limiting most other view's. Our intention was to descend via Palm Gorge, but our legs were mighty tired, so will save that for another day. Mt Greville is a grueling climb, however I am very glad I can tick this one off, as the view's, and photo's I now have made it very worthwhile. |

Mt Ngungun (Glass House Mountains National Park) |

Ngun Ngun is one of the Glasshouse Mountains. Its a relatively easy walk up this Mountian, which I've now done twice. The path is very clear and well maintained, passing an impressive looking cave along the way. You can walk up to this cave to take a photo, just be careful, as there is a reasonably steep cliff below. When you are on top of Mt Ngun Ngun, the view will impress you, particularly when looking towards Mt Coonawrin and Mt Beerwah, which line up nicely.

Mt Cooroora (Sunshine Coast) |

Hard |

Mt Cooroora is a medium grade climb, that will certainly get your blood and lungs pumping. Don't do it in the middle of a hot day like I did, as the climb faces in an Easterly direction, so the sun is on you constantly. There are a couple of excellent views at various points on the way up, but cannot match the incredible view from the top. Several rocks to scramble over, and to my surprise, a few sets of steel stairs also. The is an aiding chain along a reasonably steep ( but not dangerous ) rocky section to hold onto if required. Take water with you, and your camera ! A climb well worth doing.
Lower Portals (Mt Barney National Park) |
26 Oct, 2013 |
Medium |
7.4km return 3 hrs |

The lower portals are certainly worth the fairly lengthy walk. You do walk up and down several small hills, and gullies following the clear path. You will get to a nice little creek, and some people apparently stop here, then turn around and go back ... DON'T do this ! The lower portals are only a few hundred metre's further along, and very much worth the hike ! You can swim here, you can drink the running water, and great photo's are a guarantee.
