We did this hike from Dove Lake via Lake Lilla, Wombat Pool and Crater Lake. We decided to continue on to the Kitchen Hut as the weather was fine, but the cloud came over quickly and we had lunch there and turned back. There were some patches of ice/snow left around from the last fall a few days ago. We returned to the Ronny creek car park via Ronny Creek and saw heaps of wombats on the grassy field near the bus pickup area. Total walk was 12.3km.

My husband did the Mt Amos climb, but I only did the Wineglass bay Lookout walk and then met him on the Mt Amos climb where the granite part started (my boots are not good on slippery surfaces). He felt that while it was challenging there was less scrabbling than he had anticipated. The view was amazing though!

There is evidence of recovery after the bush-fires, but I'm guessing the area looks very different from what it did before hand! The suspension bridge across the Huon River has been replaced and the full circuit took 1.5hr for 5.5km (including photo stops).

There are two walks, one to either end of the tunnel. One goes down a set of metal stairs and then back up, and the other is an easy path. There is a colony of bent wing bats inside the tunnel so it is closed off from both ends so they aren't disturbed. |
