Mt Greville: Waterfall Gorge/Palm Gorge circuit (Moogerah Peaks National Park) |
28 Jul, 2024 |
Hard |
6.5km return 4 hrs |

So we did this by the book and walked up Waterfall Gorge to Slab Rock and then on to the Summit. Then we desended down Palm Gorge. The whole walk including 1/2 lunch break and going slow took me at age 61 exactly 4 hours. I am quite unfit and don't exercise, so if I can do it etc etc. The names are quite appropriate because the Waterfall Gorge is really a rocky creek bed that was bone dry when we did it in July but quite beautiful and the Palm Gorge is flanked by sheer rock faces on either side and plenty of palm trees amongst others. Overall a great walk topped off with uninterrupted views of Lake Moogerah from Slab Rock lockout. I did it with my son and we went through 3 Litres of water in July, probably need more in summer. |

Mount Maroon Caves (Mt Barney National Park) |

The most challenging part is not the hike itself but the fact that the track disappears many times along the way as this hike is obvisuly less used compared to the Summit walk which has a clear track you can follow. Make sure you have some sort of GPS with you or you will never make it without one. Caves are really cool and worth the effort |

The track is well marked and can be done without GPS in about 2 hours up and 1.5 down without rushing it. The views from the top are very good and unobstructed 360 view. I am 60 and not very fit and whilst I was huffin and puffin, it can be done, just take lots of water. |

4.5h return taking it very casually. The track is easy for just about anyone ( I am 60) and you get really good views from Bare Rock.

as of May 2023 you can't go all the way to the top. Its been blocked off because of Fragile Enviromental reasons. The views are quite nice from that place but if you wanted to get to the highest point....well you can't

I am 60 and did this hike without breaking a sweat so its not hard. What is the biggest challenge is the loose ground and its quite easy to slip and land on yo arse. The other problem is that you may get lost a bit. I used a hiking app and it was super useful to see where we were in relation to the track when we knew we had wondered off. View from the top are nice as you can imagine. |

At 59 I though I better get this one done before I am too old. Done it in 4 hour up and down with a few stops for catching my breath and photos. Don't do this when it's wet as you will slip off the rockface. Also, we did this on a hot day and several people had blisters on their hands from having to touch the rockface. You WILL have to touch it a lot and I suggest to take gloves on a hot day. Finally, we drank 3 litres of water each (hot day) and I should have drunk more if you know what I mean :) |

I am new and never done any rock climbing. At 59 I though I better get this one done before I am too old. Done it in 1 hour up and faster down with a few stops for catching my breath and photos. Don't do this when it's wet as you will slip off the rockface. |
