Mt Warning Summit Trail

Wollumbin National Park

MOUNT WARNING SUMMIT TRAIL IS NOW PERMANENTLY CLOSED.

A trail to the summit of Mt Warning offers beautiful 360 degree views of the Great Dividing Range from the peak. Lots of steps, can be slippery. A steep climb to the summit using chains, but the views from the top are worth it!

The walk up is through subtropical and temperate rainforest, wet sclerophyll forest and heath shrubland. Comments

A very enjoyable walk LOTS of stairs but were very much needed to assist the climb.
The chain up the rockface came in handy as it was quite misty and damp under foot when we arrived at the summit.
Even though visibility was very poor from the lookout I still had a sense of achievement on completion.
1hr 50mins to the top and 1hr 36mins to come back down,
Highly recommend walk!

My favourite hike! It’s best to go on a clear day for the best views. Not a very hard hike, except getting up the rocks can be a little bit difficult, but as long as you take it slow and steady you’ll be right.

Long. The last 100m was fun, climbing up the rocks with chains. The rest was just looking gradually around the mountain steadily, not too interesting.

Managed to make from Carpark to top in under an hour,
I am looking for hiking buddies if anybody was interested.

Lots of washout and slips but still an awesome climb. For some reason I thought it was only steps till about half way..must have mentally blocked the rest out ;) 4th time up now!

Great walk but steep st the end with the chain to get up . Hard on knees coming down but so worth it 👍

2.5 hours up 1.5 hours back.

Great hike! Highly recommend getting to the top for sunrise.

Started the climb at 3 am! The climb was hard but we had lots of fun! We saw a red belly black snake and a long carpet python. The views were incredible at the summit! Took 2 hours to get up and another 2 to get back down.

Great walk. Challenging in parts due to stairs and incline, a reasonable fitness level would be needed. Rock scramble is reasonably simple, a chain is there to help. Can get really busy, and it does get very cold at the top in winter!

Easy walk. Well defined, with great views of surrounding area and the Lamington plateau.

Did this with my 7 and 9 year old. Taxing walk, but nothing particularly difficult. The last ascend was very manageable and relatively safe. Make sure to bring plenty of water especially in summer.

A gruelling walk up but well worth it for the views. I loved the rock scrambling in the last stretch to the top.

Have completed this walk about 5 times over the last 10 years. Still enjoy it (especially the scramble near the top!)

Did it as part of a school camp when I was 15, awesome and tough climb but worth it for a summit breakfast at the end.

Great walk. Rainforest canopy cover the whole trip. Be aware very wet underfoot so can be slippery. Lots of stairs...lots. Some of these are made from rocks and vary in size from very small to up to my knees. Take gloves to climb the chain to the summit, the view is worth it. Oh and take ear plugs in summer as the cicadas can be louder than a rock concert :)

A beautiful mountain. Great walk and lovely view from the summit. Hiked 3 times and will go again and again.

Very easy, well maintained trail. Stairs for the first third of the trail, and super easy track for the rest. The last climb to the top looks intimidating but is worth it for the views. Horse flies were brutal at the top, only a few pictures then right back down. Took us 1.5 hours to get up and half that to get back down!

Lovely wildlife~ saw a 2m long carpet python, many birds and a bandicoot!

Started up at 3:45am. Raining, windy and pitch black the whole way up. Nobody else ahead, so lots of spiderwebs.
Reached the top at 5:15am and hunkered down to wait for dawn, but it was a wall of white as low cloud and fog flowed up the mountain.
Because of the rain I was glad someone suggested wearing gloves - made grabbing wet, cold rock on the final section easier.
The walk down was beautiful. Forest sounds punctuating the misty quiet.
