The track needs desperate maintenance. Extremely hard to find in most parts. Fortunately my training in scouts allowed me to find the track. I made it to a small outcrop right beneath the summit after climbing up a steep grassy slope. This lookout was approximately 50m below the summit. I couldn’t make it any further as I lost the track from here. This walk was painful for me since I had foolishly decided to wear shorts instead of long pants, and as a result, my legs got many cuts by the cobblers pegs and thistles. Don’t attempt unless you are an extremely experienced hiker!!!!!!

The walk to the swimming hole was very short and flat. However, there are lots of slippery roots and rocks with mud so be careful where you step. The water in the swimhole at the bottom of the big waterfall was very cold but very fresh and pure. Had a nice swim there whilst others jumped in using the rope swing or from the cliffs next to the waterfall. Great place to go on a hot summers day.

A nice stroll in the woodlands! I took my dSLR with me and I got some good photos of paddy melons, a carpet python and some small finches. Very pleasant and I would recommend to do if you are in the area.

A nice stroll up the Mt Ngungun. Beautiful 360 views from the top. Also, there is a cool cave about halfway up which looks super cool. I flew my drone from the top and it was spectacular. You can see all the other Glasshouse Mountains from the summit. A good intro to hiking the other glasshouse mountains.

We left really early to walk this summit. We started walking at about 8:20 and got back by 11:00, with 30 mins for a break at the top. It was a really humid and hot day, which made the walk uncomfortable. Most of the walk (except for the final part) takes place in a rainforest, where there are many bugs - so take some bug spray. The final section is much more open and extremely hot - you will get constantly scorched by the sun. You will walk past a series of cliffs that at around 9:30 - 10:00 AM should block the sun - they are a great place to take a break. The views from the summit - well, actually it's not at the very top of the mountain, its like a ledge off the side, are extremely good and you can see all over the fassifern valley to Flinders peak. If you have a drone, its a great place to fly it (I brought mine).
The Sphinx and Turtle Rock (Girraween National Park) |

Did this walk in conjunction with Castle rock. The hike from the main area of the park is quite gentle and it’s family friendly e.g. young kids can do it. At the back of turtle rock, there is a crevice that you can climb up (it’s not that hard) and get on top of turtle rock, which has really good views of the Sphinx and Nt Norman. Would definitely recommend taking lots of water and a hat especially during the hotter months of the year!!

A nice walk. Did it on the way back from the Sphinx and Turtle rock. It wasn’t as hard as the pyramid but it has better views in my opinion, since it is higher in elevation and it is in the centre of the park. It was great fun!!

Nice walk leading up to the base. It was extremely windy today so that made the climb up and down much harder. I ran down the front of the pyramid to get down. The views from the top were panoramic of the national park.

A nice but slightly steep walk up the concrete path to the summit. Views from the firetower were very good. Since there weren't any clouds, we could see the Brisbane CBD. NOt too hard, maybe slightly harder than Ngungun.

A short walk to the base of tibro, where the scramble starts at Chicken rock. It took me about 40 mins to reach the summit, and about 30 mins back down, with 15 mins at the summit to take photos and hydrate myself. Not for the faint-hearted or those who are afraid of hights.

A fun walk! Went up palm gorge and back down South east ridge. Palm gorge wasn't too hard to navigate. Just look for the white tapes on the trees. After exiting the narrow gorge, the path is well defined all the way to the summit. Great views to the north and west. South East Ridge was cool, windy and well defined. I stopped for the amazing views of Mt Moon, Mt Maroon, Mt Barney and Mt May. Easy on the way down. In total; 2 hours going up, 1.5 hours coming down. |
