Mt Warning Summit Trail

Wollumbin National Park

MOUNT WARNING SUMMIT TRAIL IS NOW PERMANENTLY CLOSED.

A trail to the summit of Mt Warning offers beautiful 360 degree views of the Great Dividing Range from the peak. Lots of steps, can be slippery. A steep climb to the summit using chains, but the views from the top are worth it!

Somehow managed to power through this walk pretty quickly. A lot more stairs than expected but was happy with how well kept the path was. Very popular at 4am. I forgot about daylight savings and was an hour behind sunrise. Breathtaking views, I highly recommend. Also, jogging on the way down cut 40mins off our ascent time :)

Treated myself to a birthday climb. Ticked Mt Warning off my bucket-list. Great climb with amazing views and in particular the sunrise. Fortunately we were not caught in any fog. Early morning climb and arrived about 45mins before sunrise. Stunning views! Take a jumper as it gets really cold at the summit. Suggest gloves for the chain at top and rock scramble.

resonably hard slog up but well worth it.

Did this walk twice in one week. the stairs and steepness going up definitely killed my thighs! Fitness level wasn't quite there and had to stop a few times up but still took less than 5 hours.

The rock scramble was definitely fun but a little hard to get down from...although it didnt seem to be of any struggle to the very young kids that seem to be gliding up and down with ridiculous speed...

The run back down was fun but left my knees shaking by the end of it.

very busy with lots of kids running around at the peak on school holidays.

We did the climb in the dark to make it to the top for sunrise. Just beautiful.

The 5th time I've done this including once in the dark for a very cloudy sunrise. 59.28 mins to the summit and 42.36 mins down.

I did this walk with my boyfriend aiming to reach the summit for Sunrise. We set out from Brisbane at 2:40 am. We arrived at the base of Mt Warning at 4:15am and set out at 4:20am. The walk took us one hour and forty minutes, stopping twice for a short rest. We arrived at the summit at 5:57am. The walk back down took us an hour and a half.
The views were stunning, even if it was slightly cloudy. It is a hard walk, but definitely worth the effort.

A great challenge especially the last part.

Chose the coldest night in 103 years to camp (in a hiking tent) at the base, before starting the walk at 4.30am. It was worth it though to get to the summit to see the sun rise.

Decided to do this walk on Easter, not such a great idea. We had to park 500m away from the start of the walk as there were so many cars and people it was impossible to get any closer.
There were so many people on the trail you never had a quiet moment to yourself to enjoy the outdoors.
Other than the people the walk as always is a good one, moderate until you get to the last 400m where you "rock climb" and use the chain to assist you on the way up and down. Once at the top there is a big grassy area to have picnics and then view the 360 degree view. Always gorgeous and worth the walk.

Excellent & pretty challenging walk... I found the view on the way up sometimes better that the view on the summit-- but suck a magical climb...

Jenfer13 on 12 Apr, 2014

Did this with my two girls. Nearly killed me at my age but I made the summit :-)

Awesome walk and the place to be at sunrise

This is still one of my favourite walks of all time. I must get back here again soon.

First time up among the clouds. This is my very first real hike and I was puffing like a billy. We all made it up the last 20 or so meters which was a bit harder but made it to see nothing the cloud cover was so thick we all came away with the notion of coming back.

I first did this walk when I was 8 years old, if done it a dozen times since and love it every trip.

Its great training for kokoda trail PNG.

Done it once, can't wait to do it again. Going up for the sunrise is awesome.

AGerussi on 2014

Well worth the effort to do this.
The steep chain section to the summit may turn some people off but if you can manage it you should complete it.
My only regret was not getting there for sunrise.

Great walk for the scenery, snakes and challenge (when you have 13kg's on your back i.e. 20 month old and going up the chain rope). Only a python so no big deal I've been told, lol

Brett on 19 Nov, 2013

That was our first real hike in Australia, and far from being the last one ;)
