Table Top Loop

Toowoomba

Table Top mountain on the edge of Toowoomba, provides views of the Lockyer Valley and surround. The climb itself can be quite demanding with a lot of large steps over the Camel's Hump and a scramble just before the summit. But the reward at the top, with a circuit all the way around, provides a spectacular vista.

Table Top is an area of high significance to the Traditional Owners, recognised in the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Register and protected under the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act 2003. You are respectfully requested to consider your decision to climb this mountain.

Route/Trail notes:

The walk starts at the base of the Camel's Hump, which is comprised of a lot of large steps. This section is quite steep for about 150m. The down section of the hump is less demanding but expect to encounter medium sized rocks to climb over. The face of Table Top is predominently large gravel which can be loose so take care. Right before the summit expect a steep scramble, it's not a difficult climb, but pick your path before you start, to save having to change direction halfway. At the summit, there is a circuit that takes you all the way around the mountain top.

Permits/Costs:

None.

A challenging but fun walk. If you're not reasonably fit you might find it difficult as it is quite steep in places. Well worth the effort though for the magnificent views. Keep an eye out for snakes as a good sized brown snake crossed the path just ahead of me while I was completing the circuit at the top.

A challenging hike for my husband and I (relatively inexperienced when it comes to climbing mountains, although we regularly do bushwalks with flatter terrain). The views from the top made it worth while, and there was enough wind to fly a kite.
The initial section of the walk was steep and difficult clambering up the large rocks. We set out at 10am, but it was already quite hot and the lack of breeze made the climb over the Camel hump quite a struggle. Once we got to the main section of the climb, the breeze was amazing. The rest of the climb was slightly less of a challenge, although the rocks were smaller than at the start of the walk so it was slightly easier going - having said that, the smaller rocks were loose and if you're not confident on your feet it can get a little slippery in spots.
360 degree views at the top made the climb worthwhile, and we were able to have a bite to eat before heading down. No shade up top however, so make sure you take the sunscreen.
It was certainly an amazing feeling having completed this climb, and we've made it our goal to go again.

A great climb and seemed very popular with all ages. I would recommend good footwear as the rocky tracks can get loose under foot. Absolutely beautiful views to the Lockyer valley below

My first rock scramble; it was a little intimidating. Some areas are not so clear as the best path to take up the rocks, but the way down is clearer as you can view the more used rocks. Graveled section was a little loose on the way down.

We took our three young kids (4, 6 and 8) up today. It wasn’t easy with the little ones but still enjoyable and they made it without a lot of complaining. Lovely views at the top but limited shade.

My favourite walk yet! Can’t wait to go again! The scramble at the end is immensely fun and an overall excellent experience!

Started early in the morning, few other walkers, but overall pretty quiet. Took 1hr 15min with a few breathers and to enjoy the views.

Did this walk in the middle of the day. Boy was it hot!! I wouldn't recommend doing it at this time. The drive down there was interesting in my city car....I would not do it after heavy rain unless you have a 4WD.

It was not overly physically demanding for me but the loose rocks made it difficult towards the end. There is very little shade as you make the final ascent. A very small 'climbing' section at the very end. You can get some lovely views from the camels hump section, but the views from the summit are fantastic. There is also a walk around the plateau but it was too hot so I didn't do it. Take plenty of water and good ankle supportive shoes.

Not too hard, a fun hike with great views, especially after some rain when everything is looking nice and green.

This was our first walk on a two week camping road trip out to Dubbo and back. Didn't start with an easy one did we! A real challenge to get the whole family to the top and back on a very hot day, but everyone agreed that the views from the top were well worth the hard work to get there.

Tough climb, but worth is for the views. I've done it a few times now and it never stops being good.

Quite a steep scramble but beautiful view from the top

Took my five year old up today and he loved it!

Short walk, some serious scrambling/rocky ground, so good shoes are a must. Great views from the top.

Took me two goes to get up but we did it!

Great hike. Slower with little kids. We loved picking our path amongst the rocks.

Nice short climb, but it's pretty steep in some parts and a bit of bouldering skill required. Not dangerous, but definitely gets the blood pumping. The view of the range from the top is stunning.

Dog Friendly!! Easy walk to the top great views.

DanF on 26 Mar, 2017

Great little hike! Harder but much shorter than I expected.

19 mins up and 18 mins down. Had a nice walk around the top and admired the stunning Lockyer Valley views!
