Mossman Gorge

Route/Trail notes:

This track starts at the shuttle bus stop and winds along the Mossman River before joining Baral Marrjanga to the Rex Creek Bridge. Several small lookouts along the track provide views of the river. Although most of the lower river track is easy walking, the steps can be slippery.

Turn around at the start of the Rainforest Circuit Track, after crossing the suspension bridge. Return via the Baral Marrjanga walk or the Lower River Track.

Take your swimmers and a towel, as there are a few swimming holes, but watch out for the strong currents.

Permits/Costs:

There's no footpath or pedestrian access from the car park to the Gorge. The road leading to the Gorge is narrow and dangerous. A shuttle bus service runs every 15minutes, for which a fee is payable ($9.10/adult - 2016).

Comments

Almost missed this walk as I was heading back to the bus but glad I didn’t. Short but beautiful walk in this amazing piece of paradise.

A simple walk to the water along elevated paths. The river is the most beautiful shade of green!

There were many people there the day we went but it's with it.

Nice place, cold water...

A nice walk and place for a swim. If you want to save time take the bus to the start, otherwise it's an extra 4km each way. The rock pools are very popular with tourists. Since you are already here I recommend doing the Rainforest Circuit at the same time.

Boy was that water cold! And yes, the current is strong. Enjoyed the walk and the informative signs.

We started this walk at 4:45pm and avoided most of the crowds. Beautiful swimming spot with a hanging bridge to cross the river. Note that you cannot drive to the start of this walk, a bus from the Mossman Visitor Centre will take you for a small fee. If you miss the last bus however you can walk 2km down the road to the carpark (I just don't recommend doing this at night).

Definitely worth a visit!

Nice, easy walk in an amazing part of the world.

When I went part of the circuit was closed for maintenance, however, could still follow the path along most of its river sections. Thankfully, and I'm assuming because of this, it was fairly quiet. The walk is not meant to be challenging but is chosen for its beauty, of which there is an abundance, and is well worth doing.

Next time I am in the region I hope to return and complete the whole circuit.

Very busy and popular, but you can see why

Wonderful lookouts over the gorge on this track. Watch out for the stinging trees along the way though. There are also plenty of great places for a swim.
