Kind of spooky! Very overgrown with lots of fallen trees to contend with. Don't expect views on the summit of Hobwee, but it is a very pretty spot for lunch. If you need some forest bathing this circuit is very good for the soul.

Planned this as a part night hike. Hardest part was that the AllTrails map failed right where it seems there is a new path bypassing an old section of path after Yerralahla (massive tree trunk with big drop to the other side -- if you find it, go back and take the switchback!) and we lost the last of the light. Even with head torches and two maps it was pretty stressful for about 15 minutes there. As others have said it can be difficult to locate the trail on the other side of the crossings but funnily after the first night crossing the others were easy as the orange triangles are reflective! GPS struggled to find me but the trail is pretty clear most of the way, so even when I looked to be well off the trail (I wasn't) it was clear enough which way we had to go. Coming back to do this one in the daytime, we ended up missing the beauty of the later falls, even though it was a fun adventure. Also LOTS of gympie gympie so please don't touch any plants with big heart shaped leaves, you will regret it.

I loved this walk! A nice easy track, with some fabulous rewards in the form of caves and lookouts and big rocks. It was more exposed than I was expecting (totally expected just a rainforest walk) so I was really happy there was a cool breeze as it could get quite hot. Completed in 3hr 37 mins including a break for morning tea, a couple of rests for my sore knee and exploring Surprise Rock.

There are two versions of the Cooloola GW - 88km (original inland route) and 102 (alternative coastal route). I did the 88km version, walking south to north. It was amazing and the facilities were well-maintained. The tanks were topped up by QPWS the week before I did it. Highly recommend but do your research and make sure you prepare!

Parked at Warril Parkland as suggested by Scherzo.con.brio and started the route clockwise. Felt very much like we weren't supposed to be there with all the gates we had to climb. Not a fan of the bridge run. A miscommunication meant we missed out the south section so after completing the Dan Stiller Memorial Reserve loop we drove to the end of Paradise Rd and did the southern section at Greenwood Lakes. This last section was completely separate to the first and it's a lovely walk through the wetlands. |
