Casuarina, Maculata, Hakea and Wild May trails loop (Karawatha Forest) |

We combined this loop with the Melaleuca Circuit. All up my iPhone says the two loops were about 5.5km however the park guide suggests the combination should be 4km. It took us approximately 2hrs stopping admire along the way. The reflection photo has been incorrectly labeled, it should read as the bridge at the junction of Hakea and Wild May Trails. I’m not sure how to edit photo captions but someone else may like to do that. |

Aboriginal Artwork Track/ Hoop Pine Trail (Mt. Coot-tha) |

This walk was easy. I agree there is not a great deal of art to see but still some points of interest. We were satisfied visitors since it was not the only thing we planned to do that day. Be sure to stop on the small viewing platform and look down stream at the large bolders for some art work on the rocks. This art could be easily missed as there is no sign (like the other points along the way have). We thought it was the best of the artwork along the track to see. We did this walk before starting out on the summit track. Stopped for ice cream and coffee at the top and then returned for a picnic lunch via mahogany trail. It was a great loop and the 8 and 12 yr old kids managed it well. |

We did this as the middle part of a loop. The aboriginal art trail first and the mahogany trail last to descend. It was a popular track of a Sunday mid morning, with kids and dogs enjoying the track too. Everyone was friendly and there was not sooo many people that you wished you’d chosen another day.

We descended from the summit via this track (after doing the aboriginal art trail and summit track). It’s a wide dirt track. The kids were pleased for the loose gravel under foot as a change from the well trodden summit track. But do be careful not to slip on any loose dry areas. Otherwise it’s an easy track to descend.

There were so many beautiful and varied types of fungi to see. One looked like a lace doily. We saw bats and pademelons too. Enjoyed lunch and the view at the restaurant. I can recommend the salt and pepper calamari. Lovely and tender.

It was a pleasant walk down this track just after sunrise on a Sunday. We gave way to a number of very fit runners. After reaching the hut and butterfly track at the bottom we returned via Rose Robin track and Reservoir trail (different to what is listed in the track description). The Reservoir trail was very steep, needing to stop and catch our breath a few times. A great work out. 5.3 km and 48 flights climbed according to my iPhone.
