Carnarvon Great Walk (Carnarvon National Park)

What a fantastic experience! The highlight for me was getting to the lookout at Battleship Spur and looking back down the length of the gorge.

It was hot weather, and we got into camp at 1-2 most days after taking a decent break in most mornings around the 10k mark. In cooler weather, you could easily walk a few sections in one go.

Sections 2&3 have some steep climbs, but the other days are mostly easy walking. West Branch has vehicle access so you do a lighter pack if someone was going to do a food drop for you at West Branch.
Mt Barney - East Peak - South Ridge (Mt Barney National Park)

Interesting walk, about 10.5 hours, including an hour or so at the summit. I wouldn't say it was overly strenuous, but it is long and the descent is hard on feet/toes and knees. I'm very pleased to have done it. Next time I would consider doing SE ridge up and South down, maybe hike in and stay the night.

I'd also advise to wear shoes with a room toe-box. A few hours after getting back the feet hurt, the knees hurt a little, but muscle-wise I feel fine. A 10k run leaves me with sorer muscles.

I would dare to suggest that it is a nicer mountain to look at than to look from, but still worth doing.
Scenic Rim Trail (Main Range National Park)

This was my first multi-day hike. I describe it as fairly straightforward for any reasonably fit day hiker and even some less fit ones. The hardest bit on my feet was the last 3ks from Cordeaux because the track was quite firm underfoot compared to the rest :).

This was a highly enjoyable walk, and I'd thoroughly recommend it. The rainforest is magnificent, as are the views on offer from several spots. While I understand the concern about commercial activities in National Parks, I have to credit Spicers Resorts, which provides the land for much of day one's walk; without this access, the end-to-end walk would not be possible. Day 3 is probably the most demanding, with a bit of scrambling on the section between Mount Castle and Sylvester's Lookouts. Walking on the road between the two could bypass this if desired.

The campsites were in great condition, the toilets were clean, and the tanks had ample water.

We took about 6 hours on Day 1, 4 hours on Day 2, 6 hours on Day 3, and about 5 hours on the final day, including lunch breaks and rest stops.

Beautiful walk. Some of the creek crossings were a bit slippery, resulting in one involuntary swim, but that wasn't too much of an issue. If I were walking with kids I'd consider doing it counter-clockwise as you get the climb out of the way in the first couple of ks and it's all downhill from there, but it is a bit of a relentless climb at first.

I think it's probably nicer clockwise as you are looking up the creek constantly. The climb to the top is a bit more broken up, but probably is steeper in spots. Though it's cooler in the rainforest than on the track.

I'll do this one again.

Road up to the Cleared Ridge is in good nick at the moment.

Walk was great. Lots of water at the moment. Well worth it.
