Overseas

Summary

We all know Australia is the place for bushwalking... New Zealand has some good tracks too... but surprisingly the rest of the world has some places worth visiting too! (imaging that!)

This is the place to share walks from outside of Australia/New Zealand.

Fujimidai 富士見台 (Gifu/Nagano Prefectures)

Fujimidai is part of the Chuo alps quasi national park in Gifu/Nagano prefectures. It literally translates as Mt. Fuji viewing area. On a clear day, you can see Mt. Fuji way out in the distance. From the top of Fujimidai, it was 360 MLG no-scope views of the central and southern alps. It's pretty spectacular and worth the hike.

Fukuurajima 福浦島 (Miyagi Prefecture | Matsushima Bay)

Fukuurajima is an island that you can reach from the Japanese mainland via bridge. Matsushima is considered to be one of the 3 views of Japan. The bay is littered with small islands that house unique vegetation. Fukuurajima itself is one of those islands. It has been designated a prefectural park and is protected. On the island you can view the unique plantlife and get some views of the Matsushima Bay. For the best view of the bay, I recommend taking a boat tour.

Gozaisho 御在所 (Mie Prefecture)

Gozaisho is a beautiful mountain tucked away in rural Mie, near the border of Aichi and Gifu. It has a collection of unqiue rock formations and is the starting point for some great hikes across the Suzuka Mountain range. For those who are too lazy to do the hike or are using it as a base to do something a bit longer, you can take the ropeway to the top. During winter, the peak turns into a mini ski field.

Iwamura Castle 岩村城跡 (Gifu Prefecture)

Iwamura Castle is located in Iwamura-cho, Ena city. It is listed as one of the 100 famous castles in Japan. However, there isn't much castle to speak of. It is just the ruins of the castle. Some old bits of wall and other remains. Don't expect too much from Iwamura castle. But the hike up and around Iwamura is nice. If you are lucky (or unlucky) you might find some snakes and inoshishi knocking about.
