M4 parking/Ubajee walkers camp/Gheerulla falls loop

Mapleton National Park

This is pleasant walk which is part of the Sunshine Coast Great walk. To get there turn down Delicia road and proceed to the M4 parking area. From there take the Great walk trail that leads to the Ubajee Walkers camp. From the camp follow the trail down to the Gheerulla falls and then from there its simply a matter of following the track back up to Delicia road (appr 2 km) and back to the carpark via the dirt road.

As part of the great walk Mapleton to Ubjaee is a bit different to the other section. More open and tall gumtrees. Lovely change. From Ubajee to gheerulla fall 2km downhill. The falls are a must see and a swim. Sitting behind the falls is just great. From here to Thilba Thalba is tough 9km uphill hike. Great views as you get closer to the top and away from the track that follows the road.

I did it as a return to spare me the boring loop along the Delicia Rd, a bit longer but the rain forest section is worth it.

A pretty walk through dense rainforest initially. Leeches everywhere! Then joins a management road and it became drier and easier. The distances on signs seem to be a gross underestimate? First sign said 5.1 to Ubajee Walkers Camp. We walked 3.9 to find a sign that said it was still 2.7? Challenging trying to keep children interested to keep going with packs on but they enjoyed it in the end.

Superb hike, trail is in excellent condition. Ample parking at M4. And no leaches this time of year!

Long walk to the falls, it was approx 17.5km round trip from Delicia Road M4 parking area with 2.2km being downhill hike to the falls. There was a warning at the top near the Ubajee walkers camp at the start of the decent to the falls saying this walk is for experience hikers only due to 2.2km steep hike. It took us 5 hrs to do the round trip.

nice walk. we first did the steep section first for 2km. Overall, enjoyed the walk very much.

Nice walk via the falls up to Ubajee viewpoint , about 4.6km return hike from car park. Up to the falls is pretty much flat but to get to Ubajee viewpoint and/or campbase it's 1.8km up the mountain , not too steep but be aware you're going uphill !

we walked late in the afternoon and camped at the walkers camp overnight and then walked to the falls the next morning .. or dry cliff face as the falls are at the moment.. the track is good the humidity is a killer and the leeches are off the planet but it's still fun to get out.

Did this walk today with high expectations as I know the area. Walked for about 1 hr following the signs then came to an unsigned fork in the road we were on. Continued left then about 20 minutes later came to another unsigned fork in the road. Continued left again and cam back out onto the Delicia track, no where near the destination. I would suggest that you need to take the right fork at the first intersection to continue to the day camp and then onto the falls. What a difference a couple of signs would have made as it is a great walk through some excellent rain forest. I will have another go at this though and this time take the right fork in the road!

Brilliant walk, with the changes in environment making an interesting and engaging walk.
