Mount Ngungun (pronounced 'noo noo')but generally known as "Gun Gun" is a very popular hike due to its relative ease and fantastic views. Traditional owners have asked that this mountain not be climbed.

A well defined graded track with some steep sections. The track begins in open forest with a fern understory. Part way up the mountain, there is a great view of Mt Tibrogargan as the track passes a small rock overhang. The summit provides spectacular close-up views of nearby Mt Tibrogargan, Mt Tibberoowuccum, Mt Coonowrin and Mt Beerwah.

Route/Trail notes:

A graded path starts from the sign post and information board. Follow the path, which switch backs up the hill till you reach a steep, loose, rocky gully, requiring big steps or light scramble/rock hop up. When you reach the top, it's a good place to have a rest, picnic and the view.

Return by retracing your steps.

Beaut straight forward kind of walk up the mountain when you can't do Mt Tibro or Beerwah. We took our kids up here many years ago when younger - a great spot for a picnic

Walked this again on Anzac Day. It is truely a special place in our country and very popular with tourists. As you walk up you realise that it is a test of your basic fitness levels, but nothing too hard to overcome. Little ones all the way up to the oldies are able to manage this walk in their own time. If you read the sign at the base you will realise that this area is home to very rare native flora found only in this area, so it might pay to mind your travels here and respect the surroundings. The ancient fern forest is just stunning! If you look closely you will see the "eye of the dragon" as you enter, this was one of the highlights of my walk. As you near the cave you can't help but wonder if the first Australians used this area for sacred meetings and affairs. It just feels spiritual. And you just know it. If you read the sign at the bottom then you of course would have noticed special wattle, flowers and green trunked trees! These beauties are just incredible to see and are found nowhere else really. The top is clearly breathtaking and has a one of a kind view back to Mount Coonowrin and Tiprogargan. The overlapping mountains. The glass house mountains is home to the Jinibara People (lawyer-vine), and each mountain represents a member of an ancient earth family which should be respected and well protected to be enjoyed for years to come. Please take your rubbish with you, as there was too much to be seen. This is aboriginal land and it is now our responsibility to keep it as pristine as they have for many years. Take without taking and leave without leaving. Thank you.

This was an early morning climb. A good amount of people traffic so that's nice to know from a young female perspective and safety. Lovely walk and pretty easy with a nice path to trek. Nice cliffs before the summit for photos and OMG the view at the summit. Amazzzzing! 360 degree views of other climbs. I'll take some of my older children tu this one next time.

Amazing summit view, incredibly photographic- not just the view but the summit rock features and flowering bushes as well. It was a wow moment as you crested the top.

A nice stroll up the Mt Ngungun. Beautiful 360 views from the top. Also, there is a cool cave about halfway up which looks super cool. I flew my drone from the top and it was spectacular. You can see all the other Glasshouse Mountains from the summit. A good intro to hiking the other glasshouse mountains.

Relatively easy walk did it in under an hour easily with long brakes because there wasn’t any rush. Could have done it in 40 mins but wouldn’t have time to soak up the view

Polarbear88 on 25 Dec, 2020

Pretty easy walk, although there are quite a few steps. Probably not good for anyone with bad knees. Lovely views at the top of the Glass House Mountains.

Olwyn on 7 Nov, 2020

Nice walk on graded path for the most part but a little rocky in parts. The track has changed a bit in places on the way up. Great views from the top and a very popular track. Get there early to avoid crowds.
