Getting there

From Brisbane follow the Cunningham Highway towards Cunningham's Gap. At the top of the gap turn right into a car park adjoining the highway. Follow the Mt. Cordeaux track which leaves from the edge of the car park.

Maps

The track is clearly marked so no map is required, however, the Sunmap Cunninghams Gap sheet covers the area.

Route/Trail notes

The Bare Rock track turns off just before the Mt. Cordeaux lookout. Follow the track as it passes through a saddle and into the rainforest. Morgan's Walk leaves the main track 680m short of Bare Rock and visits a beautiful grove of montane heath.

Comments

We completed this hike while hiking the Mt Cordeaux trail. We had full white out, so we weren't able to see the full views. Will definitely have to come back and do it again.

The views from bare rock make this easy walk very much worth while. Even the platform area between Mt. Cordeaux and bare rock is spectacularly stunning.

Same day as Mt Cordeaux

Well worth the extra distance & time to get there - feels higher than Cordeaux and gives you great views into the western valleys as well as the typical eastern ones.

Awesome! Not difficult and well worth the effort

Easy extra hike after Mt Cordeaux (45mins), only took about 30 minutes to get to Morgans and Bare Rock. Well worth the extra 30 mins.

Lovely walk - can easily do it in less than the time given (very smooth gradient). Would definitely recommend bringing a windproof jacket on windy days - there was quite a chilly breeze at the top.

3 hours plus 30 mins for lunch up the top. Was freezing and windy, but beautiful!

Very easy walk - it's a steady incline the whole way up, but not steep at all. Clear track and beautiful views over the Fassifern Valley below once you hit the Mount Cordeaux lookout. It's worth walking 2.8km further to get to the Bare Rock lookout - it really opens up and you get awesome 180 degree views back towards the East. Well worth the 4 hour return walk (with lunch stop at the top).

Fairly easy going walk but the views are awesome! Watch out for leeches after it rains!

Nice walk, a few sheer cliffs, mild scramble near the lookout, and a great view of the dividing ranges.

Beautiful walk. Great views, well graded track makes for swift walking/jogging. Perfect spot for lunch at Bare rock overlooking the ramparts.

Update: So I decided to do an overnight trip and camp in the middle of the ramparts at the South Knoll campground. (if you could call it that, more like a small area someone had brushed the leaves away.
Warning: If you plan to continue along past Bare Rock into the ramparts you must take at the very least a compass, gps and sound navigation skills.
There is no track through here, just a faint footpad only traceable on the odd occasion.
Heavy cloud came through the morning of my walk back and I lost my bearings and became disoriented. I gave up and used my compass only to find that I was heading in the total wrong direction and did a 45 minute circle.
STRICTLY FOLLOW THE CLIFF EDGE. Never let it get out of your sight! Don't walk over it but make sure you know where it is at all times and the heavy cloud could make you lose your way. Otherwise its a great adventurous trek through there.

Lovely views

I think I did this with Mt Cordeaux as well.
Definitely worth it. Would love to go back.

Lovely track along the top of the range. The views looking out from Bare Rock are surreal, and the walk toward it across the ridge is stunning. If you're tired, Morgan's Walk may be worth skipping, not too much there.

Lovely clear day. Quite a few people on the mountain. Found a nice little lookout behind Bare Rock looking to the South-West. You can find it by following the footpad on your left as you finish the final climb to the rock. Only a few metres to more exposed rock and an alternate view.

Mostly through rainforest other than the lookouts and the ridge just after Cordeaux. Plenty of bird life though the lyrebird escaped my camera

Beautiful walk, a little slippery in places. We managed fairly easily with baby in a carrier on my back. Pack water and food
