An easy walk through the bushland around the southern end of Lake Wivenhoe to the high point on Pine Hill. The eucalyptus trees look very young, so I can only suppose that this will get better with age.

Getting there:

Take the Brisbane Valley Highway between Ipswich and Kingaroy and just north of the Wivenhoe Dam turn into Hay Road. Turn right at the first junction onto Fig Tree Road; this is gated 200m in, which is where you park and start your walk.

This is the 'red' route. One of four around the peninsula. Well sign posted until you hit the 'black' trail, where you turn right to get back to the start.

Don't be fooled by the Seqwater signage, as they only tell you the length of each coloured walk, not the return distance!

I had planned to do the blue track return but I ended up doing the circuit - blue > white > red. (12.6km, 2hr 40min, stopping for a few photos and water along the way). Portaloo at both ends of the blue track is handy.
Very pleasant walk, I was actually surprised by how much I enjoyed it :) The Dam is quite low at the moment though. Closed in shoes are a must, the white track had lots of fire ants on the track. Didn’t see any koalas unfortunately :(

We did the full circuit, out on blue and back via white and red. This was a picturesque walk even if the dam levels are low and provides good views of various parts of the dam for most of the walk. Some parts undulate a little but nothing compared to the normal steep gradient of multi use tracks. It is however very hot even in early October so start early in the day if walking in the warmer months. We clocked 13km on Strava from the main carpark.

Blue walk is probably the prettiest with dam and bush views but was tricked by the distance sign which said 5k but that was e@ch way.

Did this today along with the Black, Blue and White trails. Views were lovely. I would recommend you have a stick handy to clear away the numerous spider webs along the track. Nice easy walk.

Black trail is just a road following the ridge back to the carpark. Easy way to finish the walk, but a little boring; some good views though from the top.

We walked the blue trail and then came back by the black. Saw some great birds and kangaroos and there were lots of wildflowers everywhere which was lovely. The breeze was very nice on the blue trail but on the black trail it got really very hot. Honestly the black trail was somewhat lacking in scenery and had almost 2 solid kilometers of slight upward gradient which I personally find very wearing - I'd rather do a steeper gradient interspaced with flat or downhill areas. If we did it again we'd probably do the blue but then come back via the white and red trails, the blue section had a lot going for it but the black was like just walking along a road in dry backcountry.

We did the Blue route along the lake and returned by the Black route, 9km in all, easy going and no koalas but did see wallabies and a snake!

First walk of the year whilst camping at Captain Logan Camp, Lake Wivenhoe for the Australia Day long weekend. Not that exciting as we were Koala stopping and never saw one.
