Fraser Island Great Walk (Great Sandy National Park) |

Great walk north to south from Happy Valley to Hook Point. Lost my camping mat partway through but had it returned to me by some lovely fellow hikers going in the opposite direction as they drove back south. Rainy weather sucked due to lack of shelters, but were able to shelter at the toilet block at Lake McKenzie till it cleared up enough to pitch our tent. Definitely best to walk with a partner or in a group, the hike is quite remote in parts, and there's not much reception on the island, even with Telstra. Would 100% recommend in winter, summer would be too hot I reckon! A bit nippy at night but was fine with a light down jacket and fleece jacket. You get warm through the day walking. |

Walk itself was nice, no particularly spectacular views, nice rainforest though. Tunnel was pretty cool.

Great fun scrambling up the top, didn’t make it to the second peak but definitely doable if you take care and have some climbing experience

Awesome views on this walk, definitely dangerous for the inexperienced! You can easily see how lots of accidents have occurred. Either wear shoes with really really good grip, or be okay with going barefoot, because the path is really worn down and smooth from the years of use. There is an alternative route up the east face of the cliff if you turn left towards the bat cave and keep going straight ahead, but it is a fair bit more treacherous than the tourist route and not really marked at all.

This walk is listed as ‘Very Hard’, I wouldn’t call it too physically demanding though, especially if you’re taking it slow. It’s less physical fitness and more confidence in your footing and ability to rock scramble. A good climb! Go barefoot for extra grip.

Really fun hike and beautiful view- if you cooee off the top it echoes for ages! Recommended if you're relatively fit and have done a couple of bushwalks already, don't be scared off by its difficulty level though, it's not impossible if you're willing to take your time.

Good hike, feels a bit off the beaten track and has a nice view of Flinder’s Peak from the top.

Did the walk in Winter so the waterfall wasn’t flowing, still lovely views though. Nice wide track, probably better for 4WDs than people, a bit steep in some places, easy to slip over if you don’t have good grip on your shoes.

Beautiful walk. Had some intermittent rain throughout, but it just made the waterfalls look more spectacular, and the moss look greener. Lots of leeches, so wear DEET insect repellent if possible. Drop in for a cup of tea at the teahouse after! Hopefully next time they still have some lamingtons left :)

Really decent bushwalk, better to be relatively fit before you try and tackle it though. Pop into the info centre beforehand to pick up a map so you can navigate your way through the suburb bit. Also- don’t park on the main road! Even though you see quite a few people parking there it’s illegal and they’ve started booking people for it recently apparently. Drive into the Carpark!

Easy to follow walk, recommend the Tanglewood walk if it's a hot sunny day as it's shaded, whereas the coastal walk is quite exposed to the sun. Tanglewood walk is also less busy. Really great variety of track. Parking is terrible on weekends and holidays, so try to either get there really early (9am or earlier) or park somewhere else and take a bus in if you can. Also avoid parking illegally, you'll get a parking ticket for sure, they're really onto it there! (Learnt the hard way, whoops).

Hot Summers day in Brisbane, but it was nice and cool up in the rainforest! Cute resident chickens wandering the picnic area too. |
