I delayed summitting Mount Cooee for a year or two after reading the comments, as I expected the hike and climb up to be alot worse than it was. We didn't park close to the fire trail, as there was no good spots to park close. Follow the fire trail. When I got to the T junction, I chose the way that was straight ahead, and I followed the pink ribbon trail (pink ribbons tied to trees), which took you 90% of the way to the summit. This trail had multiple spots with really nice views, and there's a really nice rocky area to sit with the views and have some food/drinks and relax. While following the pink ribbon trail, I didn't get scratches or plants brushing up against me much. The trail was good, it included some fun rock scrambling. The last bit was not marked with the pink ribbons on trees, and thick plant life that will scratch you has grown over every possible way to reach the summit. Still, I wanted to summit, and I'm glad my husband didn't, as I relied on his voice to find my way back to the trail. I recorded my path to the summit on the All Trails app. Bring mosquito spray, they were so hungry they were biting me through my tights. This took us only 1 hr of moving time (and we definately weren't going fast) plus some more time to admire the views, and take photos. There were a few times we thought the pink ribbons had ended, but then look further/ walk a bit more then you'll see it. This hike isn't popular, so we walked through some spider webs that wouldn't be there if there had been more people going up this way. I only saw small spiders. I've been using the word "trail" whereas others would disagree and call it a bush bash, but in my mind, bush bashing is alot worse than what we did. Recording your hike on the All Trails app helps you find your way to the summit, as the mountains topography is shown on there. |

This year the walk opened at 6:30am, $10 per person aged 12 and up..all proceeds for charity. If you start early, the fog/mist/ cloudy haze reduces the clarity of the views at the summits (2 different viewing areas with amazing views) . The temperature was nicer earlier than the humid heat of later in the day (it felt a bit like summer later). If you start later, theres alot more crowds (thousands hike this in one day) and alot of the rocks become loose/ easily dislodged. I saw people slipping and skidding for that reason. It's a bit of a walk to the base of the mountain too, but there was a tractor riding people to and from. Loved being able to do this mountain, and the crowds made the atmosphere more interesting! The festival included a radio station there (I got interviewed :D), food stalls, live music, paid helicopter rides, other stalls from locals, prizes, facepainting, Mt Cooroy merch etc. At 1pm the helicopter dropped 1,000 tennis balls from the sky. You have to walk through rainforest before the mountain base, and children could get a piece of paper and pencil to tick off the animal toys they found hidden by staff in the rainforest. People travelled just for this event, I'll probably attend annually. SES and first aid are on hand, were handy to remove my tick. Saw children of many ages doing this as well as families and older folk. Theres also designated rest areas along the way, as well as portaloos and cold bottled water for purchase before the mountain base. Cooroyrotary.org.au had all the info! Why not do Mt Tinbeerwah while youre in this area? You can drive up 90% of the way up the mountain with only a 10-15 min (non-steep) walk to spectacular 360 degree views!! Watch out for unstable rocks when stepping on them. Had to walk a bit further from the summit to get a nice view due to all the trees. Take mozzie spray and a marker to add your name to the board up top :)

Easiest mountain hike I have done. Much more bushland in the view than Mt Coolum 3km away. Multiple places you can stand so you get a view of everything. It got its nickname due to the emus that lived up here. I post photos of my hikes to instagram.com/spring_beans and I am based in the Sunshine Coast :)

This one was better than I thought because of the large rocks slightly off the trail that you can get amazing views from! Better views than I expected too! Loved it!! I post photos of my hikes to instagram.com/spring_beans am based in the Sunshine Coast :)

this trail entrance was hard to find. it starts as walking on the 4wd trail off Marshs rd, just past the Mt Tibrogargan carpark (heading away from Mt tibrogargan then past its carpark). we didnt come across anyone else on a Saturday afternoon. we came to where we assumed was the end of the trail but glad we had the Alltrails map open because we followed it to the very end where there was some rock scrambling.. not much. my husbands favourite of the four Glasshouse mountains we have hiked! use mosquito spray.. they were biting us in large numbers at certain points in the trail! spectacular view of tibrogargan, coonowrin, mt beerwah, the twins etc. I read online that kids could do this, but I wouldnt take my children due to the rock scrambling and have to be careful near the edges.. its such a long way to drop. not a long hike so theres a fair bit of steep hiking. I recommend only doing this walk if youre after the bushwalking. It was a lot of effort for this small waterfall and you can go to bigger and better ones with less effort. If youre after a swim.. Goodness knows whats in the water here. But at least at the closeby gardners falls and kondalilla falls, swimming is alot more popular there, maybe less gross things in the water? Or not. The walk back was tiring and felt like it took forever.. Just alot of uphill in the humidity. Alot of big rocks near the waterfall that are suitable to sit and eat on.
