Mount Tibrogargan Summit

Glass House Mountains National Park

Almost a free climb instead of a hike.

It’s quite tricky to actually find it. Come off the Steve Irwin way at Matthew something park and drive around the back and through a tight railway tunnel then off to the right. You’ll pass some farming sheds on your right and the track to the car park is on your left.

According to Jinibara people’s lore and custom, Beerwah is the ancestral, pregnant mother. Tibrogargan is seen as the father with Ngungun, his faithful dingo, lying at his feet. The mountains around them are their children. Coonowrin is the eldest. The others are Beerburrum, Coochin, Elimbah, Tibberoowuccum, Miketeebumulgrai, Tunbubudla and, the youngest is currently known as Wild Horse Mountain.

Aboriginal people do not climb these mountains out of spiritual respect to Jinibara and Kabi Kabi peoples. They ask that visitors refrain from climbing them for the same reason.

Route/Trail notes:

Start on the Tibrogargan circuit walk and eventually you'll get to a sign pointing to the summit. It goes up pretty steeply until you get to the base of a cliff. From this point follow obvious wear marks to scramble up and up and up. Eventually it levels off with more bush and you're at the 364 metre summit!

Very popular climb, a bit of fun if you don't want to do an all day climb of one of the Gold Coast Mountains

First time on Mt Tibro. Serious rock climbing. Approx 3.5 hours is about right.
Would love to go back to challenge my fear factor....

Awesome! Bit of a climb and a bit scary in some areas, but worth it when you get to the top.

Worth the challenge! Hope you like rock climbing!

Beautiful day to climb. Thought the south-westerly would be blowy on top, but perfect! Lots of people on the mountain including a group of 18!

Great morning, top views

A steep rock climb, be cautious and confident, you'll need it

Not for the faint hearted!!!
Took the kids up but didn't quite make it to the summit. The up is a climb and a half and great to push yourself, however with the kids (6 & 8) and no climbing gear or rope it's the going down that was the hardest!

Very tricky climb at the top, quite scary!

Loved this climb! Challenging but fairly short. Not too difficult if you are fit and not afraid of heights. The climb up was fun and down was easier than expected although the legs started to shake a bit! Definitely keen to do it again.

Finally reached the top of Tibro after waiting for a year to be opened again. This is a psychological challenge just as much as a physical one. Once you overcome the first, then it is doable by anyone with some level of fitness. The scary bit is coming to terms with the fact that you have to scramble your way down and not going to roll down the hill instead! :) If you watch your feet and test the rocks before you use them, you will be fine. Most of them are pretty solid. Don't try to pull them out to see how solid they are though! Be considerate of other hikers :)

Yes, definatly steep. Saw people turning back. It is a climb, but with heaps of holds. Great view at the top.

Had a great time on this climb. Was already tired from climbing 3 others that morning but tackled it with enthusiasm anyway. Flew past all that were climbing and flew past those on the way down. Total time from carpark and return was 1:15! Part of my 7 summits in one day challenge.

Awesome climb. We went up at night. Beautiful view of the lights from the top.

Done this walk/climb 5 times over the last 3 years or so - one of my favourites.

Early start to the hike , this time took some friends up and great to see the track to be re-opened after bushfire late 2014.

Still a tricky hike up the " no waiting zone " but so worth it

Nice to see this walk open again. I took my son for his 15th birthday and his first ascent of this mountain. Unfortunately he tripped over after all the hard stuff on his way down and twisted his ankle. I had to carry him out on my back!
