Mount Ngungun (pronounced 'noo noo')but generally known as "Gun Gun" is a very popular hike due to its relative ease and fantastic views. Traditional owners have asked that this mountain not be climbed.

A well defined graded track with some steep sections. The track begins in open forest with a fern understory. Part way up the mountain, there is a great view of Mt Tibrogargan as the track passes a small rock overhang. The summit provides spectacular close-up views of nearby Mt Tibrogargan, Mt Tibberoowuccum, Mt Coonowrin and Mt Beerwah.

Route/Trail notes:

A graded path starts from the sign post and information board. Follow the path, which switch backs up the hill till you reach a steep, loose, rocky gully, requiring big steps or light scramble/rock hop up. When you reach the top, it's a good place to have a rest, picnic and the view.

Return by retracing your steps.

Hey guys, first time ever doing this, very unfit but just gave up smoking so wanted to celebrate and tick this off my bucket list too. Well being over weight I nearly died but guess what I did it, I struggled on the way up a bit with feet pain and breathing but on the way down was knees, feet and back due to some of the rocks being large and having to jump down them. Still an accomplishment which I am proud of.
Keep safe everyone

I did this walk recently with my husband, it's a Class 4, uphill steep walk. When you get up to the top you have to climb up the rocks but the view is just stunning. Look out for my photo's on Vivy's Travels.

This is the second time I have done this summit, very easy! The top is very exposed bring a hat!

Planned to do this trek for sunrise, didn't realise it was a blood moon until the day before. It was packed at the top, lots of families which was nice to see. Took us no time to get up, i think under an hour.

3.5/5 stars, 1hr return at slow pace. Very short hike with a decent view, easily a high summit view to trail difficulty ratio. Mostly a walk along a trail, some rocks jutting out at some points along the dirt track - so watch your step. Scenery is decent, a bit of bush, a bit of lush greenery from the abundant ferns, a small cave next to part of the trail. Not heaps of variation along the way, but the walk itself is relatively short, so it is unlikely you will get bored. Summit gives a nice 360 view which includes tibro, beerwah and coonowrin. The ease of the walk and decent summit view can result in large crowds at the summit. I've done this hike 3 times.

Great walk - had 3 young children with me and they all did well. Very busy though

Walked this, this morning. Started climbing at 6.05 am to see the sunrise. For a wet and cloudy morning it was a great walk/climb. Would definitely recommend this to any fitness level but be sure not to walk when too slippery since the top has very slippery rocks to climb over.

Always a good hike.

Great morning. Drizzly so rocks a bit slippery but still very doable just need to be cautious. Advantage was not many people on the track and an amazing view from above the clouds

Loved this. Felt it after for the next few days though. Nice gradual climb and such a fabulous view at the top

4th bushwalk - uphill the whole way but only a short distance so not too bad.

there was absolutely amazing

Great walk for all abilities as it offers great views of the surrounding area while being very achievable, even for those with low fitness levels.

I went up Ngunngun with a small group after tackling Mt Beerwah (the original plan was to do Tibrogargan after Beerwah - considering the slog we had on Beerwah, discretion was seen as the better part of valor and we chose Ngungun instead 8 - ]).

Well worth doing if you are not capable or don't want to take on the its bigger siblings. Nice shady walk up to a great view, round trip was probably an hour with a short stop at the top for some happy snaps. Always plenty of people here with tons of kids on the track which is nice to see.

In summary: Worth doing for the view, can accommodate all fitness levels and can be done in a hurry if you want to zip off to the beach aftwards.

Took the whole family up for sunrise. Was quite crowded but worth it. Kids had no trouble (6 + 8 yo) but Nan and Pop struggled a bit with the climb.

Richard Mason on 23 Jun, 2018

Nice walk, kid friendly depending on their ability to climb to the top. Its suitable for all fitness levels. Very nice views :)
