Mount Ngungun (pronounced 'noo noo')but generally known as "Gun Gun" is a very popular hike due to its relative ease and fantastic views. Traditional owners have asked that this mountain not be climbed.

A well defined graded track with some steep sections. The track begins in open forest with a fern understory. Part way up the mountain, there is a great view of Mt Tibrogargan as the track passes a small rock overhang. The summit provides spectacular close-up views of nearby Mt Tibrogargan, Mt Tibberoowuccum, Mt Coonowrin and Mt Beerwah.

Route/Trail notes:

A graded path starts from the sign post and information board. Follow the path, which switch backs up the hill till you reach a steep, loose, rocky gully, requiring big steps or light scramble/rock hop up. When you reach the top, it's a good place to have a rest, picnic and the view.

Return by retracing your steps.

Second time up this mountain and I loved it! Left really early with a head torch and was able to see the stars before the sun rose which was stunning. Steep climb but highly recommend it!

Very busy but nice quick walk. Doesnt take 3 hours as stated, would avoid in the wet!

Very nice walk with great views. The cave is pretty cool. Suitable for families just watch the kids once you get to the top
Recommend this one

Nice little walk with some great views. We probably made a mistake by going on Mothers Day. Track littered with kids and mums in active wear. Mt Cootha would have been less busy! Took some tourists up it, they enjoyed the views.

We were dropped off at the start of this track and collected later by Shona and Shane Olsen. Great short climb with 360 views. Well worth the effort.

EASY
4/5

Mostly a walk along the trail, with some bits of stairs here and there. Trail itself is pretty bumpy, with rocks jutting out all along the dirt track. Twisted or sprained ankles may occur if you aren’t careful.

Scenery is decent, a bit of bush, a bit of lush greenery from the abundant ferns, a small cave next to part of the trail. Not heaps of variation along the way, but the walk itself is relatively short, so it is unlikely you will get bored. Summit can provide a nice 360 view which includes the nearby mt tibro, beerwah and coonowrin. Minus 1 point, the easiness of the walk and decent summit view result in large crowds at the summit.

Would recommend to people of all ages. Saw many young kids and elderly folk on the walk. If you’re an experienced hiker, I’d recommend this track for a sunrise or sunset trip instead of a day trip; otherwise there are more challenging trails out there with more rewarding views.

Thought I had an original idea of coming here for the sunset, turns out it wasn't that original afterall. Despite the crowds was a nice simple walk, similar in intensity to Mt Coolum (i.e. not very). The view from the top was excellent, can see why it attracts so many people. Has a nice central location so you can see all the major Glasshouse Mountains.

Nice easy walk to the summit. Great view in all directions.

Plenty of family's on the the very well defined track.

No chance of loosing the track.

Perfect walk for beginners looking to try some inclines. Beautiful view from the top

Very easy climb, even in the rain. Beautiful views from the top.

We did this one in about 30 degrees. Makes you appreciate the shade in the lower half of this walk. But the views on top are amazing and it's nice to watch people "abseiling" for a while.

Marc Wingelaar on 4 Mar, 2018

Well defined path, easy parking, great summit views. Weekends can get quite busy.

Easy walk. Great for trail running. Awesome views and clear enough to safely enjoy sunrise/sunset with the kidlets

Was a amazing walk, slightly steep parts but over all a great experience and will be going again.
