Mount Coolum

Sunshine Coast

Enjoy a steep trek to the summit of one of the Sunshine Coast’s ancient volcanic domes. Created about 26 million years ago, Mount Coolum is a laccolith, formed when a dome-shaped bulge of magma cooled below the Earth’s surface.

A nice short walk with great views and scenery. Not too easy but not very difficult. We encountered clouds of mosquitoes on a previous visit, although they were absent on this one.

Views are incredible.. lots of kids on the Mountain today being school holidays, will definitely be back (maybe when it's less busy) plenty of mosquitoes!

It's a must do, the views are stunning, the climb feels like an accomplishment.

Great walk for families with children who are able to walk independently up hills. Great views. Can be slippery on the way down, wear shoes with grippy soles.

As a full-time smoker this walk was a struggle up however with heaps of practice and to do this walk regularly it will be easy! Heaps of the locals do this daily before they even go to work. I remember walking down and I saw a pregnant woman with a heart monitor on her coming up for the second time. So if she can do it, anyone can do it. Gorgeous beach view on one side and some pretty breath taking Sunshine Coast hinterlands on the other. Well worth the climb.

First walk for the 4 of us on a wonderful winters afternoon, not a cloud in the sky. Not too difficult even for the 2 oldies (late 50's) who are getting over a very bad cold. Fantastic views and photo opportunities.

Did the whole thing in 30 minutes! Could have done it faster without all the hectic holiday/weekend traffic :)

Easy walk, great views

The views are stunning. Quite an easy walk up hill with a few steep areas. Easy to navigate paths. You can see the coast quite easily and stay watching that view for hours. Wonderful views and worth the drive. Easy parking at the base.

Have done Mount Coolum many times. The track can get busy, lots of people use this for training running up and down multiple times.

Even at the crack of dawn on a Sunday morning, this track is busy. Though people were overwhelmingly courteous in moving to the side of the track to let others pass. It's exposed—so make sure you have sunscreen.

Challenging for me with current lower level fitness (feel the leg burn!). Took 25-30 mins up, slightly faster going down. Can be quite slippery on the dusty rocks, some rock scrambling required to reach the top. More challenging the Mt Ngun Ngun in my opinion. Totally worth the trek, trail and view are both beautiful! Super busy the day I went so suggest going as early as possible.

loved it but nearly eaten alive by mozzies - bring spray!

Great climb to start with! Great for families. Beautiful views from ontop! Not a hard or long climb. It will get the heart rate up. About 20 minutes up and less coming down. You feel like you achieved a good climb by the time you get to the top 🙏💕

Easy walk with good views out towards Noosa. Nice to do on a free afternoon

Enjoyed the walk and the views. Was worth a quick stop off.

Did this after Mt Cooroora in the morning. This is easy, unlike some other medium level hike. Short walk. Beach view is the only thing different on this track compared to plenty other tracks with mountain views.
