The highest of the Glasshouse Mountains, the Mt Beerwah summit walk is slightly easier than Mt Tibrogargan but still quite challenging. It has extensive views of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland and Glasshouse Mountains.

Lookouts
Scrambling or Climbing
No Dogs Permitted

Getting there:

Travel via Glass House Mountains township, left into Bruce Paradede, left to Coonowrin Road and left onto Old Gympie Rd then right onto Mt Beerwah Road to the picnic ground.

Route/Trail notes:

Follow the walking track from the car park to the base of the mountain. This section is quite exposed and some rock scrambling experience is essential. Do not attempt if the rock is wet or rain is expected. Scramble up to the base of the cliffline. Turn right and follow the cliffline around and follow an obvious track around and up to the summit. Return via same route.

Indigenous History

Aboriginal people do not climb these mountains out of spiritual respect to Jinibara and Kabi Kabi peoples. They ask that visitors refrain from climbing them for the same reason.

According to Jinibara people’s lore and custom, Beerwah is the ancestral, pregnant mother. As there is nothing more important than a mother giving birth, Jinibara people are taught to respect and protect Mount Beerwah—a deeply spiritual place. Their lore and custom teach them not to climb this mountain out of respect for its great sacredness. Tibrogargan is seen as the father with Ngungun, his faithful dingo, lying at his feet. The mountains around them are their children.

This one is my favorite, I love to climb Mt Beerwah early in the morning when it is cooler and not to many people.

Climbed twice in October. Love this climb! The hardest part is definitely at the start with 2 wide rock faces which don't have a whole lot of grip points so take it easy.

Further up it becomes easier with lots of ledges and things to hold onto, not that steep either - can almost walk up. Half way up you reach the bottom of the cliffs and from there on it changes into a very mild walk/hike through forest and up rocky bits.

By the way, at the bottom scary bit there is an easier way from the left (just turn off left before the last set of stairs). Some people mark arrows on the rock to show the easier way up/down. It traverses the wide rock face with lips and ledges and tree trunks around to walk on so it's much milder.

Great and steep hike. There is a 20m vertical section that you should be prepared for when you hit the rock face early on. It would have been nice to know before i started. Well fitted shoes were a must. Overall the hike isn't bad there are just 2 quite vertical parts that you should be prepared for and on the way down i honestly wished i was wearing climbing shoes. (I was wearing a heavy pack though)
Don't be too scared of this route, i passed a 70 year old woman climbing down. She was in incredible shape of course, but just goes to show if you're prepared you can do this hike too. Views from the top very worth it. Water and snacks nice, but not necessary if you want to go packless, as it was a shorter climb.

It was a great climb, however, we were caught out by the weather. It started raining when we reached the summit, which made the decent very difficult. Ensure you take a look at the weather forecast before climbing.

Lets keep this real.
Some of the comments here are from experienced, confident, fit and young trekkers.
Mt Beerwah is a very real and dangerous climb, in places it is very slippery and demanding.
To state its easier than Mt. Tibrogargan is ludicrous, both are challenging terrain's that can damage you or take your life.
All I ask when attempting this Summit is to make sure at the first climb you are comfortable and clearly aware that you will come down what you just climbed (up is always easier than down), take the time to look and understand your ability. Try to have someone experienced or seek someone experienced at this climb with you.
This mountain is a great experience and one of the most fabulous views of the Sunshine Coast and beyond, it is the Mother of all the other mountains in this group (except Tibrogargan (the Father)), so respect her and she will carry you safely back.
Don't forget your water, you'll need it.

Great climb, scramble I thought this would be a little easier than it was.
The start was the harder part of it all. The views at the top are worth the hard yards.
I should of done a smaller scramble style climb first. I was lucky enough to meet some people that helped me out along the way.
Oh and if you don't have The right shoes go barefoot!! So much better.

Great climb/scramble. You should have climbed at least 2 other hard climbs and be at a reasonable fitness level or you will not enjoy the climb and the descent even less. Strange flying ants at the top year round but they have not sting or bite. Bring food and water

Just on an hour up, 20 minutes down. Great views all the way up and a great challenging scramble.

There were millions of native bees right up the top, so had to only spend a few minutes taking in the view.

Did this on Ekka holiday for my first time. It's definitely a challenge but i'd say Tibro is harder. Great views at the top.

Excellent hike/climb! We found this to be a little bit more challenging than Mt Tibrogargan and took a little longer too. The climb up was pretty steep and challenging at the start, especially in new boots. Moving higher up the terrain became a little bit more forgiving. The walk along the base of the cliffs at the half way point was really beautiful and a good way to catch our breath before the next steep section to the summit. The views from the top were amazing. The way down was much quicker, mainly because I slid down on my rear wherever the rocks were smooth enough for it. I wouldn't recommend this one if it was raining, but for a beautiful clear day it was really great

What an amazing rock climb. We arrived at the mountain thinking we were just go for an easy little bush walk but upon seeing people hanging off of the sheer rock face we realized we were in for something far from that. We ended up having to do it barefoot as our shoes just didn't provide good grip so would definitely recommended buying a pair of Dunlop Volleys to use. At risk of sounding blunt, do not attempt this walk without general fitness and some rock climbing skills, nor if you are afraid of heights.

Quite challenging up and down. As long as you're comfortable with the front face then you'll be fine. There's nothing harder than that IMO. It doesn't relent that much though so I think there's a decision to make for a lot of hikers nice and early on. If you can press on though the views are certainly worth it. Sometimes the bugs at the top are a bit crazy but stay low and they'll leave you alone... mostly. On the way down was a little more hectic with a lot of inexperienced or nervous people getting into some dangerous situations by sliding on their bums. Momentum is not your friend in that situation. A very good idea to take someone who has tackled it before or is very confident climbing/scrambling. Biggest tip I could give is to wear the right footwear here. Some of the sections are slabby with not a tonne of holds especially if there's traffic. A reasonable hiking or approach shoe will serve you well here and hopefully ensure a safe trip.

I felt like this was a one slip and your a goner climb... come prepared it is not a walk or hike it is a climb! I found this to be very scarey at parts and certainly felt unsafe. But in saying that the view and experience is definitely worth it and im glad i challenged myself into doing it. It may only be a baby mountain but certainly epic!!!

Very hard climb for the inexperienced. I have done A LOT of hiking in my time over all sorts of rough terrain, and I was not expecting this. This is rock climbing and scrambling. Your leg and particularly arm muscles will get a workout. The climb requires a lot of judgement as to wear to place your feet and which nooks in rocks to grab on to to hoist yourself up. It can be very risky at times, and definitely not for the feint hearted. The very start of the rock climbing in itself is a struggle, and a lot people gave up there and then and turned back. TIP: if you are struggling at the start with the slippery rock face, turn left facing the mountain, walk a couple of meters and find a short straight up vertical rock face with lots of little nooks to place your feet and hands in to hoist yourself up to a patch of bush at the top. It's not easy, but I found this easier than the slippery rock face most everyone starts on. I can't stress enough to take LOTS OF WATER! I had just one water bottle, and ran out a quarter of the way up the mountain. Even in the middle of the winter, when the sun is out it gets HOT. It took a 4 hour round trip and I think I would have done the climb faster if I was better hydrated. A lot of people carried camel packs, I regretted not doing this also. Also GOOD SHOES are a must. My Nike's were useless, and I ended up taking them off and going barefooted as they kept making me slip. Also wear old clothes, as the "slide" down the mountain will probably end up ripping your pants, as is what happened to many on the day I climbed, including myself. Beautiful views from the top and a great feeling of accomplishment. Best to go on a completely cloudless day, and DEFINITELY NOT on a day where there is a chance of rain.

Awesome climb - recommend rock climbing shoes for the climbing element, makes for a much quicker and safer trip. Amazing 360 degree views of Glasshouse Mountains! Definitely my favourite in the area :D

You need to be comfortable in your abilities to walk up steep polished rock using hand holds. Basic rock climbing skills are quite helpful and I would exercise caution in taking people without much hiking or climbing experience up the mountain. The path up is straight forward with a few bottle necks like at the base, otherwise, it is quite a good hike. I personally felt it was tougher than Tibrogargan, and I say this only to caution people that they are aware of what kind of terrain to expect. There were a fair number of hikers that had come out and only made it up 50m of the base of the steep section because it was out of their ability or they were not prepared for the hike because they did not know what to expect. It was a spectacular hike and one of my favourites in queensland. We climbed as a group of 5 with three experienced climbers and two intermediate climbers and it took three hours to compete with breaks.

Nick on 13 May, 2016

This hike is a great summit, and am a little confused at how this is rated Hard and Tibrogargan is rated Very Hard, and how this is 3 hours and Tibrogargan is half the size and 3.5 hours. But either way, this is a great hike and great for beginner rock scrambling!

CamronDixon on 27 Apr, 2016

Visited again and the carpark was full. People all over the mountain. A good/bad thing.
I was doing a speed run and managed to complete the climb from carpark to carpark in 56 minutes!

dalehikes on 17 Apr, 2016

Warning. This is a hands knees and feet climb. Wear gloves on a hot day as they'll cook on the rock. Don't wear nice clothes as you could shred your bum sliding down. If you don't make the top of the mountain within 2 hrs on a hot day you will run out of 2 ltrs of water per person. Now that I've freaked you out, I did it with my 15kg daughter on my back and my 5 yr old son went up it like a mountain goat who needed a little bit of help. Awesome climb.

father&son on Apr, 2016

Finally managed to reach the top of Mt Beerwah even though on the summit route. Weather cleared out by midday so we went for it. The slabs are quite slippery in places and difficult at the very bottom of the cliff face. I still find it safer than Tibrogargan
