Mount Ngungun (pronounced 'noo noo')but generally known as "Gun Gun" is a very popular hike due to its relative ease and fantastic views. Traditional owners have asked that this mountain not be climbed.

A well defined graded track with some steep sections. The track begins in open forest with a fern understory. Part way up the mountain, there is a great view of Mt Tibrogargan as the track passes a small rock overhang. The summit provides spectacular close-up views of nearby Mt Tibrogargan, Mt Tibberoowuccum, Mt Coonowrin and Mt Beerwah.

Route/Trail notes:

A graded path starts from the sign post and information board. Follow the path, which switch backs up the hill till you reach a steep, loose, rocky gully, requiring big steps or light scramble/rock hop up. When you reach the top, it's a good place to have a rest, picnic and the view.

Return by retracing your steps.

Has to be one of my favs as it's not so rugged and view is fantastic. Easy for the kids and great for training. 30min up and back at a steady jog.

An easy 20 minute walk to the top of Ngun Ngun. It's one of the smaller Glasshouse Mountains and is a very similar climb to Mount Coolum. I didn't find any of this walk challenging, but did have fun doing it. A nice view over the Coast and the Hinterland from the top. It's a very popular walk, so expect crowds.

This is a very popular track. Only some sections are very steeps. Spectacular view of glasshouse mountain at the lookout at the top of the mountain.

A moderate walk, a little steep but well worth the view at the top.

My Fifth Time up Mt Ngun Ngun ... A relatively easy walk, to an awesome view..

Did this after Mt Tibro, great views for little effort. Signs everywhere for people who dropped cameras over the rock ledges though, tie around your hand! Tiny overhang 'cave' nearby.

We've walked this track many times but this is the first time since it's been changed. I have to say I found the walk much more enjoyable. Sorry to all of you guys who like a bit of a climb but the new part has been really well done and is quite picturesque. Heaps of people up there today. The car park was packed.

Ngun Ngun is one of the Glasshouse Mountains. Its a relatively easy walk up this Mountian, which I've now done twice. The path is very clear and well maintained, passing an impressive looking cave along the way. You can walk up to this cave to take a photo, just be careful, as there is a reasonably steep cliff below. When you are on top of Mt Ngun Ngun, the view will impress you, particularly when looking towards Mt Coonawrin and Mt Beerwah, which line up nicely.

Good walk to the top with great views when you get there.

Slowly ran up it and then down: very pretty, certainly easy if you walk it rather than run up, breathtaking view from the top, reasonably short: must do for those who are in the area and want to appreciate the natural beauty of the region.

Did this walk with my 11 & 13 year old. Easy to climb when you are fit! Great 360 views from the summit.

Nice day out at Mt Ngungun for Abseiling :)

Ruby on 14 Jul, 2013

They have changed the track :(
No more scramble past the cave, the whole cave area is closed for regeneration. It was still a nice walk, but thats all it is now, just a zig zagging walk.

Awesome trek. great views. wicked little cave on the way up.

I have done this walk a couple of times. Great view of Glass House Mountains, particularly Coonowrin and Beerwah. Good walk to take the family on as not overly challenging and no really exposed sections (unless you want them at the summit).

This is one of our favourite short walks.

Great short walk/scramble, enjoyed the small cave in the gully, great day on top the weather was just perfect. It was quiet busy on the summit with a big group of abseilers and people out enjoying the sun, explored the heath to the west out to the cliff edge then walked north around through the Heath to the small cliff line of the highest point and ascended the track to the right of this to reach the peak, layed on the sun for about 45 minutes them headed back down.

Good fun walk with my 12 year old daughter. The majority of the walk is a walk/climb up a quite steep incline.
Took us about 1 hour return which included about 10 minutes on the summit.
